Harold and Renee Berger Synagogue Network for Young Families


The Harold and Renee Berger Synagogue Network for Young Families was established in 2008 by Harold Berger to encourage and support congregations interested in developing and implementing significant, systemic approaches to attract and engage Jewish families with young children to their congregation and to Jewish life.

What will you get as a member of the Berger Synagogue Network?

As a member of the Berger Synagogue Network, Jewish Learning Venture staff will assist your congregation in developing a team of lay leaders and professionals to design, implement, and evaluate your project. You will participate in a series of webinars and workshops facilitated by our staff in which you will learn about the realities of the 21st Century Jewish Family and best strategies for engaging them in Jewish life. We will also be available to consult with you and your team throughout the year to strengthen your congregation’s family engagement initiatives. Finally, your congregation will receive a stipend to be used for the implementation of your project.

What will you to do as a Berger Network Congregations?

Learn: Jewish Learning Venture will host an in-person workshop as well as a webinar series (see more information below). Congregation teams that participate in 2 out of 3 learning sessions may also take advantage of one-on-one consultation with Jewish Learning Venture staff.

Design and Implement: 
Using Jewish Learning Venture’s resources described above, your congregation will design and implement an initiative that connects families with young children to your congregation. Your proposal must either seed a new strategy or significantly expand on an existing one.  You will submit a proposal detailing your strategy no later than September 27, 2017 and launch the project by December 2017.

Evaluate: Following implementation of your project, your congregation will complete an online evaluation form by April 11, 2018. Upon submission of the evaluation and budget form, your congregation will receive a small stipend to defray costs.

  • Webinar 1:  “Welcoming and Greeting:  A jkidphilly partnership training”  
  • (NOTE NEW DATE) Wednesday, August 2 from 12 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.
  • Workshop:  “What can we learn from our successes and our challenges?”
  • (NOTE NEW DATE) Monday, October 16 from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
  • Webinar 2:  “Following up:  What happens after an event”
  • (NOTE NEW DATE) Thursday, November 2 from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.
  • Submit Implementation Plan with Projected Budget.  No later than September 29, 2017.
  • Schedule consultation with Jewish Learning Venture by November 1st (Should occur between October 2017 – February 2018.)
  • Online evaluation form and budget due April 11, 2018.
