ADATH ISRAEL / Babayit
This program was designed to engage young families socially, religiously and spiritually in the Adath Israel community through two in-home learning experiences around Holidays and a family retreat. By having these families participate in smaller groups, we believe that the connections will become stronger that they will translate into greater engagement with and commitment to the greater Adath Israel community.
CONGREGATION BETH EL / Beth El Celebrates!
The goal of our program, Beth El Celebrates, is to reach out to young Jewish families in the community with children below B’nei Mitzvah age and attract them into Congregation Beth El’s building through dynamic, engaging Jewish programming. By meeting Jewish families outside the synagogue atmosphere in familiar settings such as the mall or the bookstore, we feel we can effectively facilitate enjoyable Jewish experiences for them and consequently invite them into our home, our congregation, a friendly, non-threatening way. The anticipated impact of this program is to integrate these young families into Beth El, involve them in our activities and programs, give them free membership and become participating members of our synagogue community.
OR HADASH: A RECONSTRUCTIONIST CONGREGATION / Or Hadash: On the Road, Or Hadash: In the House
This initiative will take Or Hadash “on the road” to neighboring bookstores to introduce us to the larger Jewish community. The Rabbi, Educational Director, and faculty members will lead a story time program. Additional volunteers will be on hand to capture contact information and answer questions about Or Hadash. Once we meet interested families, they will be given a “coupon book” which will contain discounts and offers that are tied to various youth oriented programs “in our house” at Or Hadash throughout the year to entice them to come to our synagogue. We will follow up with anyone we have given a coupon book to in an effort to ensure that they connect with Or Hadash in a way that makes sense for their family.
GERMANTOWN JEWISH CENTRE / Book Center
GJC’s goal of building community and attracting young families involved transforming our Quitman library to include a a space that is more welcoming for our Early Childhood Program Classes (daycare and pre-school), Religious School classes, parents and families and to enhance our popular but limited Friday night Tot Shabbat programming so as to appeal to a wider audience.
The library will host a variety of planned programs and this transformed space will also be a place for organic socializing to take root, for families to better connect with one another and to GJC.
The Tot Shabbat programming would target additional families by adding earlier and more frequent segments and programs, in addition to our current schedule of once every other month.
