Emilie Passow earned her Ph.D. in English Literature with Honors at Columbia University. She has taught in many academic venues including Haverford and Swarthmore, where she taught for 12 years, and the University of Pennsylvania. Emilie’s current professional interests focus on Medical Humanities and Jewish Studies. Dr. Passow was a Visiting Scholar at Thomas Jefferson University, serving on the Task Force on Professionalism and as an observer on the Hospital Ethics Committee. She gives Medical Humanities Grand Rounds at major medical institutions. Emilie is the Director of the Certificate Program in Medical Humanities and teaches Jewish Studies and Literature & Medicine at Drexel University. She is also a Research Associate for the “Transcending Trauma” Project at the Penn Council for Relationships, exploring patterns of resilience, communication, and Jewish continuity in Holocaust survivor testimonies. Dr. Passow lectures and writes on Biblical narrative and American Jewish Writers and narrative medicine. She was a member of the Advisory Committee for the Chaim Potok Literary Award, and has been a member of the Arts-Medicine Division at the College of Physicians, the Pennsylvania Medical Humanities Consortium, and the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities.
