Jewish Learning Venture is launching the Jewish Education Innovation Lab – a multi-session, virtual Professional Development that integrates essential social, cultural, and educational best practices with Jewish values and practices.

We invite Congregational Education Directors and Congregational Teachers to apply to one of our four cohorts for the 2023-2024 school year. We will use the cohort model to examine shared challenges and work together towards sustainable positive results. You will also have access to consultations with Director Julia Weekes, outside of the cohort sessions, to address issues unique to your learning environment.

Congregational Education Directors

Teaching for a Global Jewish Community

Understanding diverse global Jewry with a focus on non-Ashkenazi Jewish communities throughout the world and throughout history. Explore diverse ethnic and cultural Jewish identities through their histories and material cultures, infuse curricula with global Jewish identity and practices, and learn the difference between honoring a culture and appropriating it.

This lab will meet for five Wednesdays from 11:00am to 12:00pm on the following dates: Nov 8, Dec 13, Feb 14, Mar 13, and Apr 10.

Collaborative Leadership

Congregational Education Directors navigate many challenges as they lead their Jewish education community. This cohort will guide Education Directors to recognize the institutional structures and relationships that affect their education communities and devise action plans to share leadership among essential stakeholders in realistic and sustainable ways.

Although this is the second year for the Collaborative Leadership cohort, we will ensure that both first year and returning cohort members have their particular challenges addressed over the course of this lab.

This lab will meet for five Mondays from 11:00am to 12:00pm on the following dates: Nov 13, Dec 11, Feb 12, Mar 11, and Apr 8.

Congregational Teachers

The Jewish Responsive Classroom

Responsive Classroom is an evidence-based approach to teaching and discipline that focuses on engaging academics, positive community, effective management, and developmental awareness. This cohort will integrate Jewish values and practices into a Responsive Classroom model that truly helps you respond to your classroom community needs.

Although this is the second year for The Jewish Responsive Classroom cohort, we will ensure that both first year and returning cohort members have their particular challenges addressed over the course of this lab.

This lab will meet for five Wednesdays from 7:30pm to 8:30pm on the following dates: Nov 8, Dec 13, Feb 7, and Mar 13.

Foundations of Jewish Education (For the new, nearly new, or wanting-a-jumpstart Jewish educator)

Are you a new Jewish educator, interested in becoming a Jewish educator or are you interested in refreshing your skills with new educational best practices? This cohort will introduce you to principles, practices, and tools and show you how to apply them in your classrooms. We will help you recognize your teaching “superpowers” and the places where you don’t feel so powerful. We will explore Classroom Management/Classroom Engagement, Social Emotional and Spiritual Learning (SESL), Unit & Lesson Planning, Teaching To All Learners, and Creative Assessment Tools.

This lab will meet for five Mondays from 7:30pm to 8:30pm on the following dates: Nov 13, Dec 11, Feb 12, and Mar 11.

Our Early Childhood Educator cohort was the bright spot in many weeks.  Your hard work and collaboration was without a doubt what pulled us through.

I want to thank all of you for the outstanding support that this amazing group gave me throughout this “interesting” year! I wouldn’t be able to survive 2020 without you!
