Jewish Learning Venture is launching the Jewish Education Innovation Lab – a multi-session, virtual Professional Development that integrates essential social, cultural, and educational best practices with Jewish values and practices.

We invite Congregational Education Directors and Congregational Teachers to apply to one of our four cohorts for the 2022-2023 school year. We will use the cohort model to examine shared challenges and work together towards sustainable positive results. You will also have access to consultations with Director Julia Weekes, outside of the cohort sessions, to address issues unique to your learning environment.

Congregational Education Directors

Racial Justice/Global Jewish Identity

How do we move from fear and inaction when it comes to making meaningful progress in racial justice and authentic belonging for Jews of Color/Multiracial Jews in our communities? This continuation of the Year 1 cohort will focus on integrating racial justice and an expanded lens on Jewish identity into your curriculum, communications, and culture. New cohort members are welcome and will engage in a pre-cohort group session. Returning members are encouraged.

We will meet one afternoon per month, via Zoom, for 5 months. A minimum of 3 one-to-one meetings with Julia is required during the course of the lab.

Collaborative Leadership

Congregational Education Directors are often burdened with more responsibilities than time and a minimal number of team members to support their work. This cohort will examine the structures that create these burdens and devise action plans to share leadership in realistic, manageable, and sustainable ways.

We will meet one afternoon per month, via Zoom, for 5 months. A minimum of 3 one-to-one meetings with Julia is required during the course of the lab.

Congregational Teachers

Jewish Responsive Classroom

Responsive Classroom is an evidence-based approach to teaching and discipline that focuses on engaging academics, positive community, effective management, and developmental awareness. This cohort will integrate Jewish values and practices into a Responsive Classroom model that is structured yet fluid and collaborative at the same time.

We will meet one night per month, via Zoom, for 4 months. A minimum of 2 one-to-one meetings with Julia is required during the course of the lab.

NATIONAL TRAINING LAB: The “Well” (Wisdom, Empowerment, Leading & Learning): A Professional Cohort for New Teachers

This cohort for new teachers is part of a national effort to engage new congregational teachers in the essential building blocks of effective Jewish education. New teachers will participate in small-group learning, as well as join others from around the country for monthly presentations from renowned Jewish educators.

We will meet one night per month, via Zoom, for 6 months. There will be an additional 2 hour national presenter session one Sunday night per month. A minimum of 2 one-to-one meetings with Julia is required during the course of the lab. Due to the larger commitment for this cohort, there will be a $500 stipend for participating teachers.

Our Early Childhood Educator cohort was the bright spot in many weeks.  Your hard work and collaboration was without a doubt what pulled us through.

I want to thank all of you for the outstanding support that this amazing group gave me throughout this “interesting” year! I wouldn’t be able to survive 2020 without you!
