The British Army’s Camp 80 (Mahane shmonim in Hebrew) near Hadera was the site of a daring raid by the pre-state Jewish underground military organization Etzel (Hebrew acronym for Irgun Tzvai Leumi, or National Military Organization). Both the camp and the raid’s commander became iconic figures in Israeli history. This lecture will shed light on the day and the man that made Camp 80 famous.

Peter Margolis, historian extraordinaire with special interest in Israel, Zionism will speak on “Jewish Resistance in Palestine During the British Mandate.” Time, date other details to be determined. Peter Margolis is a doctoral student in Religion at Temple University. He earned his BA and MA degrees in Jewish Studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In his “day job,” he is the Director of Distance Education at Community College of Philadelphia. He has designed, developed, and taught online and in-class Jewish Studies courses.
