About Rachel:
Rachel Dubin is the Research & Data Analyst in the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, United States House of Representatives. She holds an MA in International Affairs from the George Washington University and a BA with Distinction and Honors in Political Science with Russian language from Goucher College. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and speaks, reads, and writes Russian and French. She is the recipient of several advocacy awards. At age 11, she testified in support of funding for deafness research before the United States Congress. She has provided testimony to the Maryland State Legislature and the Council of the District of Columbia on deafness-related issues and is often called upon to review accessibility accommodations for the deaf and hard of hearing community. She is profoundly deaf from birth and hears with cochlear implants, which she received as an adult.
About Benjamin:
Ben is a retired CPA. He currently serves as vice chair of the Baltimore County Disability Commission, a position held for 20 years. He has chaired the Maryland Advisory Council for Universal Newborn Screening for Deafness and the Governor’s Office for Deaf and Hard of Hearing. He was responsible for the passage of Universal Newborn Screening for Deafness and an insurance payment mandate for hearing aids in Maryland. He is the recipient the Maryland Association of CPA’s public service award and Lee Rosenberg award for exceptional volunteer service, leadership and advocacy on behalf of people with special needs. Ben has served on the Board and as an Officer of The Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, The Baltimore Hebrew Congregation, Men for Reform Judaism and several agencies of Baltimore’s Associated Jewish Charities. Ben serves on the Jewish Federation of North America disability committee. He has testified many times before the Maryland legislature on education, accommodation, and housing disability issues. Ben has also facilitated caregiver support groups for dementia.
