Finding Meaning in a Changing Gender Landscape: A Workshop for Jewish Educators
May 3, 9:30-1:00pm
Location: Jewish Learning Venture, 7607 Old York Road, Melrose Park
This workshop is designed to give Jewish educators the opportunity to increase their understanding of today’s changing gender landscape and, more specifically, of transgender experience. The day will include interactive Jewish text study, Jewish transgender young people sharing their experiences, an exploration of changing gender terminology, and a chance to explore ways to integrate the recent surge in public interest in trans identities into conversations with Jewish youth about gender, identity, bodies, relationships, and sexuality.
Educators will leave with concrete tools and material for encouraging young people to identify how transgender visibility impacts their understanding of their own gender identities, relationships, and communities.
There is a registration cost of $18 per person that includes all materials, refreshments, and a light lunch. This program is offered in partnership with Moving Traditions and Jewish Learning Venture.
