‘One Book Mishkan’ in conjunction with the ‘One Book, One Jewish Community’ series presents :
What We Talk About When We Talk About Jewish History: Lecture by Harold Gorvine

This lecture will focus on the conflicting views of some Jewish historians about the Jewish past. Readings will include: “The Sermon”, a 1942 short story by Haim Hazaz; excerpts form the work of ancient historian Josephus; writings of the medieval rabbis; the sociological view of 20th century historian Simon Dubnow and the classic essay “Israel: the Ever Dying People”, by Simon Rawidowicz.

Harold Gorvine earned his Ph.D. in history from Harvard University in 1962, taught for many years at the college level and, for 38 years at Akiba Hebrew Academy. The school honored him in 2012 for life achievement. His passion in teaching, as in life, is a search for truth.

Mishkan Shalom partners with the city-wide One Book, One Jewish Community (OBOJC) Program: A national model for community building and Jewish literacy. The OBOJC program has touched thousands of individuals throughout the Greater Philadelphia region.
