On Monday, January 18, 2016, in honor of Martin Luther King’s Day of Service, over 75 people gathered together to participate in the Jewish value of Hiddur P’nei Zaken, honoring the elderly. Volunteers from One Brick Philadelphia joined jkidphilly families to brighten up the lives of seniors who reside at the Wesley Enhanced Living facility in Media, PA.

Amy Blum, Jewish Program Coordinator at Wesley Enhanced Living, shared, “This is the fourth year that we have partnered with jkidphilly for Martin Luther King Day. It has been a great partnership as our residents get so much pleasure from seeing the little kids participating in the program. Our residents, who are the recipients of the crafts, are so touched and can’t believe that the crafts were made for them. Jewish Learning Venture has brought creative activities to these programs which have fostered the interaction between the generations. Intergenerational programs are a win-win situation: They bring back fond memories for our residents and the children who come are exposed to the older generations and have an opportunity to interact with the older generations, something they rarely get to do outside of family members. We look forward to continued partnerships in the future.”

jkidphilly offers social action programs throughout the year. If you would like to get involved or know an organization that would benefit from collaborating with jkidphilly, please be in touch.
