Introducing jteenphilly
By Lori Rubin, Director, jkidphilly and jteenphilly / The energy is palpable! jteenphilly, a new initiative for Jewish teens, their parents and the professionals who work with them, is under way! 28 organizations were represented in our first jteenphilly Consortium meeting yesterday (pictured below). Professionals from Jewish camps, youth groups, high schools, congregations, and initiatives that engage teens gathered together to share successes and challenges as we build a new jteen community.
Engage, Engagement, Engaging
By Rabbi Phil Warmflash, Executive Director / Engage, Engagement, Engaging – this is the word that is ubiquitous today in Jewish education and communal parlance. It has supplanted “outreach” which was employed for several decades. Outreach implied going out to “them” and bringing them to “us” and was always seen side by side with “inreach” to those who were already “with us.” Jewish engagement speaks of a different approach.
