Ten years ago, we announced the very first One Book, One Jewish Community selection – how time flies! In the intervening years, we have shared the reading of all kinds of Jewish books: fiction, non-fiction, memoirs, short stories, local authors and writers from far away. Each one brought our community together to learn, discuss and share great Jewish books in all their different forms.

This year’s choice is, in that spirit of diversity, an out-of-the-box selection…..ZAHAV: A World of Israeli Cuisine by Chef Michael Solomonov and Steven Cook. Memoir, personal history and fascinating culinary lesson all in one, ZAHAV will enable us to read together – but also create opportunities for us to cook and eat together – and share in a very Jewish experience. Mark your calendars for our Kickoff Event on Wednesday, December 14, 2017 at 7 pm at Congregation Beth Or in Blue Bell, and watch for programs all around our community celebrating our One Book selection and the wonderful cuisine of Israel.

In honor of our Tenth Anniversary, we are taking the opportunity to revisit the nine books and authors we’ve celebrated since that first year. We’ve asked our authors to tell us about what they are reading; what else they have written; memories of their OBOJC experience; and, in honor of this year’s theme, a favorite recipe. Stay tuned for their upcoming blog posts!
